Castle Island, Loch Kinord: a medieval castle on an island in Aberdeenshire, with iron axeheads, spearheads, a cup, a jug and canoes recorded nearby. The water closed around the stones like a fist, forcing every visitor to arrive by boat and leave before dark. People may have rowed past the island for centuries, hearing nothing but water and wind, while the castle kept its own quiet company above the loch.
