Castle Hill is a Norman motte and bailey earthwork standing 150 metres north west of St Michael and All Angels Church in Shropshire. The mound and platform mark the early castle-building tradition brought into England after 1066, though the identity of its founder and the length of its occupation remain unknown. Its closeness to the parish church suggests the castle shaped the local landscape, but no surviving account names the hand that raised it or the life lived inside its timber walls.
