Castle Hill is an Iron Age univallate hillfort in the New Forest, where a single rampart and ditch still enclose five acres of marshy oak, silver birch, holly and bracken. The earthworks rise highest on the east, while the west drops steeply, making the hidden shape feel less like a ruin and more like a living ridge. Local story claims a dragon once inhabited the hill and was slain by a knight from Brook, giving the Green Dragon pub its name. Whether myth or memory, the hill still holds the shape of that old conflict.
