Castle Hill rises in Shropshire as a Norman motte and bailey, its earthworks shaped shortly after the conquest of 1066 to project power across the Midlands. The mound and adjoining enclosure still mark the place where authority was consolidated, even though the exact chronology and any stone structures remain uncertain. Walking past its boundary is an encounter with deliberate forgotten shape: soil moved by human hands, later surrendered to grass and time.
