Beaumont Chase still carries the Castle Hill motte and bailey, a Norman earthwork built after 1066 to project conquest across Rutland. The mound rises from the chase like a forgotten fist, perhaps watching roads, herds or passing men before stone castles made such sharp earth obsolete. It is not a display tray or a finished story; it is a changed landscape, preserving the shape of fear, ownership and speed.
