Castle Hill holds a substantial medieval moated enclosure where a local landholder likely defended a modest manor from rain, rivals or pride. The ditched platform and banks still mark the boundary of that domestic fortress, preserving the shape of a household that has stopped naming itself. Three hundred and fifty metres south of the church, the earth remembers the weight of doors, firelight and footsteps now lost to time.

The National Heritage List for England records Castle Hill moated site, 350m south of St Peter and St Paul's Church as a scheduled monument. The saved point comes from the centre supplied by the official record. Listing does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
