Castle Hill in Angus, Scotland, is a prehistoric Ring Ditch House, where an ancient hand cut a shallow trench and raised a bank to hold a household together. The ditch may have kept rainwater, animals or strangers at a distance, while the ridge gave the building a stage above the grass. People may have lived there, argued there and forgotten the names of everyone who died inside. The earth still keeps the shape of that choice, waiting for a person to imagine the rooms before judging what the hole was for.
