Castle Heather

Castle (medieval)

What is recorded here

Castle Heather stood as a medieval keep in Highland, Scotland, though its exact founding date remains unknown. The name suggests a retreat for recluse monks rather than a military fortress, implying quiet prayer instead of battle. Today only a shallow platform and faint ditch marks remain, stripped of towers and walls by time and human activity. What was once a secluded home for thinking and faith has become a flat scar on the land, remembered only through scattered names and faded boundaries.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Castle Heather as Castle (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
