Ashlar limestone gateway, erected c.1770, to Castle Hacket country house. Comprises vehicular entrance having square-plan piers with moulded plinths and cornices and topped with blocks having balls, with rebates for double-leaf cast-iron gates, in turn flanked by round-headed pedestrian entrances having block-and-start surrounds with projecting copings, one entrance having timber battened door. Rendered limestone quadrant walls flanking entrance, having limestone copings and with round-headed niche to each side having limestone block-and-start surrounds and sills. Plaque to east pier reads 'This house was destroyed by fire in January 1923 and rebuilt by Lt General Sir Denis Kirwan [...] 1929'.

This gateway is a fitting introduction to Castle Hacket country house. It is of good quality limestone and has a pleasing appearance formed by the quadrant approach walls, round-headed niches and pedestrian entrances and the particularly finely detailed piers.
