Fraser Castle rose beside these fields in Aberdeenshire, but the land held older lines. Medieval rig and furrow marks still break through the post-medieval surface, recording hands that forced food from reluctant soil before stone walls caught light. The castle framed the view; the fields fed the frame. Both belong to the same continuous human pressure: take from the land, shape the land, be remembered through what the land still shows.
