Castle Dyke camp, Ugbrooke

Scheduled monument

What is recorded here

Castle Dyke is an Iron Age hillfort inside Ugbrooke Park, where a broad inner rampart encloses an oval ridge and a separate outer bank curves southward like a guardrail drawn across the land. The earthworks are large enough to suggest crowds, ceremonies or conflict, yet they have no surviving name for the people who shaped them. They may have watched the Kate and Ugbrooke valleys, marked a boundary, or simply made the hill difficult to ignore.
The National Heritage List for England records Castle Dyke camp, Ugbrooke as a scheduled monument. The saved point comes from the centre supplied by the official record. Listing does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
