Castle Douglas, Abercomby Road

Road Block (second World War)

What is recorded here

Abercomby Road still carries the memory of a second world war road block in Castle Douglas. Stone or earth may have narrowed the route, forcing trucks and soldiers to slow before the town. The restriction protected local life and disrupted military movement at once. That temporary barrier turned an ordinary road into a line of defence, shaping how the community faced wartime danger.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Castle Douglas, Abercomby Road as Road Block (second World War). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
