What is recorded here

Castle Baun stands in ruins at Carrowena, a tower house reduced to stones but still named in Clare. It may have guarded a narrow stretch of land where families argued, traded or hid during troubled times. The exact rooms are lost, yet the shape remains clear enough to imagine: a tall stone presence built to be seen, defended and remembered.

Built by the MacNamara dynasty in the 14th or 15th century, Castle Baun (Carrowena) is remembered as a historic Gaelic stronghold in the Burren region, reflecting the defensive architecture and territorial significance of the area during the late medieval period.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
