Castle an Dinas is an Iron Age hillfort on Castle Downs near St Columb Major, built with three concentric rings of ditch and rampart around 708 feet above sea level. It is still a living stage for local memory, holding midsummer bonfires, stories of Arthur’s hunting lodge, and a ghost army seen in the sky. The fort has also marked serious choices, such as the Royalist council of war in 1646, and it remains one of the most important hillforts in southwest Britain.
