Castell Cynfal, Bryn-y-Castell Castle Mound

Motte

What is recorded here

Castell Cynfal rises in Gwynedd as a Medieval motte, shaped by human hands into a castle mound rather than left to natural slope. Its name and form suggest a time when authority needed elevation, visibility and defensible ground. Even without surviving walls, the mound remains a claim made in earth: someone valued this place enough to rebuild the landscape around it.
The National Monuments Record of Wales records Castell Cynfal, Bryn-y-Castell Castle Mound as Motte from the Medieval period. The saved point comes from the official national record. Inclusion does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
