Criccieth Castle was built by Llywelyn the Great, Prince of Gwynedd, in the early 13th century, and later enlarged by his son Dafydd ap Gruffydd. It is important as a key example of Welsh medieval military architecture and as a symbol of the power of the Welsh princes during the 13th century.
