Castell Brogyntyn is a ringwork castle built during the late eleventh and twelfth centuries, when the Welsh Marches required strongholds to hold the border between England and Wales. The earthwork still stands as a raised platform with a surrounding ditch, though the timber or stone structures that once crowded the interior have vanished. It remains a scheduled monument, protected because that simple circle of soil still marks the moment the region was forced into a new shape.
