What is recorded here

Deerfin holds a cashel rebuilt as a counterscarp rath, then reused as a mass fort. Its stones have therefore served more than one kind of fear: old boundary, later defence, and the sudden violence of religious civil war. The chamber may have been small, but it was repeated across centuries. People kept returning to the same height, shaping it until memory and weapon shared one address.

The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as CASHEL converted to COUNTERSCARP RATH, reused as MASS FORT. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.; POST-MED. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
