CASHEL AND PORTAL TOMB: THE LONG STONES in Aghmakane

CASHEL AND PORTAL TOMB: THE LONG STONES

What is recorded here

Six tons of granite lean together in Aghmakane, forming a chamber where Neolithic hands first stacked stone and later Christian builders added a cashel. The long stones still point across the field like a sentence broken mid-word. They have watched herds, storms and forgotten prayers for millennia. What they stored in darkness remains unspoken.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as CASHEL AND PORTAL TOMB: THE LONG STONES. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.; NEOLITHIC; PREHISTORIC. Recorded protection: Scheduled. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
Portal tomb; Neolithic period. It is significant as part of a rare and early megalithic tradition in the region, reflecting early ceremonial or funerary practices.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
