What is recorded here

Carscreugh Castle stands in Dumfries and Galloway as a medieval tower house, its stones still marking the ground where people once watched the land and kept their lives safe. The build suggests a small, defensible home rather than a grand palace, likely crowded with heat, shadow and ordinary fear of losing what they owned. Whatever happened inside has faded, but the shape remains, pointing back to a time when a tower was enough to hold a family against the dark.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Carscreugh Castle as Tower House (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
Carscreugh Castle was a medieval tower house, likely built in the late 15th or early 16th century by a local landholding family in the Scottish Borders region. It is remembered as part of the defensive and territorial landscape of the area during a period of frequent conflict between Scotland and England.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
