Situated In scrub on a promontory on the SE shore of Lough Boderg, which is on the River Shannon. A small circular embanked enclosure (ext. diam. c. 25m) described as ‘Carrigeen Fort’, or the fort of the little rock is depicted on the 1835 edition of the OS 6-inch map, and it is depicted as a D-shaped hachured feature (dims c. 40m N-S; c. 30m E-W) truncated on the E side by a N-S field bank on the 1907 edition. This is a grass and scrub-covered area but no archaeological feature is visible at ground level.
