Carrickpatrick House

On a rise in cleared fertile meadow. Carrickpatrick House was described by Weir (1986, 60) as an 18th-century (‘or earlier’) house, a single storey L-shaped house with six bays and a thatched hipped roof, facing S with a cobblestone yard to the N bordered by a high wall. It was depicted on the 1842 OS 6-inch map but was demolished with just the outline of the house remaining along with old gates and gate piers by 1986 (ibid.). The house was listed in the RMP (1996) as ‘House – 17th century, possible’. On inspection in 1999 the house was confirmed to have been levelled with parts of it incorporated into farm buildings on the site. Mount Prospect house, listed by Weir (ibid.) as a two-storey 18th-century house still stands c. 100m to the WNW. Compiled by: Mary Tunney Date of upload: 19 April 2023
