Carns is a lost name on the western shore of Lough Fergus, preserved only in a 1842 map while the marsh swallowed the stones that gave it life. The water retreated enough to reveal reeds and one odd boulder, yet the cairns vanished beneath rushes and memory. A person may have stacked rocks there to mark a crossing or honour the dead, but the lake took back the shape and kept the name floating like a rumor.

On the W shores of the partially drained Lough Fergus in a marshy area of high rushes and reeds. Named 'Carns' on the 1842 edition of the OS 6-inch map. Listed as ‘potential site-name’ in the RMP (1996). No visible surface traces of any cairns survive. Only an odd boulder was visible in the overgrowth and among the reeds and rushes.
