What is recorded here

Located on a rise in a low-lying landscape between the hills of Sheemore which is c. 2.3km to the SW and Sheebeg c. 2km to the ENE. This is a D-shaped grass and scrub-covered mound of stone (dims of base 24m N-S; 15m E-W; H 0.7-1m) with a flat top (diam. 14.4m N-S), from which intermittently visible limestone kerbstones (dims c. 1m x 0.2m; H 0.3m) protrude on the perimeter. It is overlain by a N-S field wall at W, but the cairn does not survive W of the wall. There are quarried-out hollows at the centre. It is a possible passage tomb. Two ring-cairns (LE028-003----; LE028-005----) and a stone pair (LE028-004----) are within 200m to E and S. The cairn is listed as a passage tomb (de Valera and Ó Nuálláin 1972, 143). (Herity 1974, 278, Le 7) The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Leitrim' compiled by Michael J. Moore (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2003). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
