Carlingwark Lane Canal and Railway Bridge stand in Castle Douglas, Dumfries and Galloway, where a railway crossed a canal lane. The exact age remains unassigned, but the structure still marks the point where two systems of movement met. Perhaps engineers built it in haste during a busy trading era, or perhaps it appeared gradually as traffic demanded a clearer crossing. Either way, the bridge carries more than steel and stone; it holds the forgotten rhythm of carts, trains and people rushing through Galloway.
