What is recorded here

Carew Castle is a Norman rectangular castle with Elizabethan ranges in Pembrokeshire, Wales, built in 1270 by Nicholas de Carew from local Carboniferous limestone. The Carew family took their name from the site and owned it for more than 900 years, while Royalist defenders added earthworks during the English Civil War. Its towers, dry moat, Tudor gallery and river-facing bluff make it feel like a house that kept changing clothes but never stopped watching the water.
The National Monuments Record of Wales records Carew Castle as Castle from the General period. The saved point comes from the official national record. Inclusion does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
Carew Castle in Pembrokeshire, Wales, was built by the De Carew family in the 13th century and later held by the Herbert family, Earls of Pembroke, from the 16th century. It is important as a well-preserved example of medieval and early modern military architecture and as a symbol of the region's turbulent history during the English Reformation and the Civil War.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
