Cardiff Castle Second World War Barrage Balloon Site marked a defensible edge where invisible strings pulled heavy rubber into the sky. The castle became a anchor for weapons that flew above ordinary sight. Men watched ropes, knots and weather because one loose line could drag a balloon into a home or a man.
