Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Captain Ivory's Cave, Strathy Bay as Cave (period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
Captain Ivory's Cave, Strathy Bay, is a sea cave formed by wave action eroding the sandstone and conglomerate cliffs typical of the area. Local folklore associates the cave with a 17th-century pirate, Captain Ivory, said to have hidden treasure within.
