Abercastle, Pembrokeshire: two cannons lie buried in the harbour mud, jammed into the earth like giant bollards for ships to tie against. They date from the Post Medieval period, when gunpowder and sail shared the same water. Imagine ropes creaking around bronze barrels, captains trusting dead weapons to hold living boats. The harbour still smells of salt and iron memory.
