Caludon Castle in Coventry lost most of its structure in 1662, leaving only a fragment of grey sandstone wall beside a modern housing estate. The site dates to the 11th century, became a manor for the Segrave family, and was rebuilt as a mansion around 1580 after decades of neglect. A 2008 survey traced an oval defence line, moat and large hall beneath the ground, suggesting the castle was far bigger than its remaining wall admits.
