Caldhame

Tower House (17th Century)(possible)

What is recorded here

Caldhame is a possible 17th-century tower house in Aberdeenshire, though local records describe two small farmsteads with sandstone houses, a horsemill and a well belonging to the Town of Forfar. The eastern farmstead still stands as The Cottage, its whitewashed walls and grey slate roof marking a life of grinding grain and growing food rather than distant grandeur. Whatever tower may have risen there, the place remembers hands on mill gears and children running past cottages, not knives in the dark.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Caldhame as Tower House (17th Century)(possible). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 100m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
Caldhame Tower House was likely built in the 17th century, though specific builders or holders are not recorded. It is remembered as a historic example of a Scottish tower house, reflecting the defensive and domestic architecture of the period.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
