Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Caitloch Cave, 'covenanter's Cave' as Cave (nil Antiquity), Covenanters Cave (17th Century). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Caitloch Cave, known locally as the 'Covenanter's Cave,' is a natural limestone cave formed through dissolution processes typical of Carboniferous Limestone in southern Scotland. It is associated with 17th-century Covenanters who may have used it as a place of refuge during periods of persecution.
