What is recorded here

Fifteen small gritstone mounds and a straight lynchet mark a Bronze Age field on Little Bumper Piece. People cleared stones from cultivation plots, built enclosures, and perhaps buried the dead among them. The field still holds its shape, waiting to show whether life or death filled those ovoid heaps.

The National Heritage List for England records Cairnfield 650m north west of Bumper Castle as a scheduled monument. The saved point comes from the centre supplied by the official record. Listing does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
