Half a century after men broke the mound for a road and carried away its dead, the stones still hold five hollows and a buried lintel. Westropp denied the cist existed, yet the shape of the hole and the memory of bones suggest he missed what the road builders already understood. The quarry breathing hot dust against the ancient edge makes the contradiction feel alive, as if the cairn is waiting for someone honest enough to stop arguing and look inside.

On level ground in rough pasture, with a field wall immediately to the W and within a multiperiod field system (CL009-255---). A small, subcircular, flat-topped cairn (5m E-W; 4.2m N-S; max. H 0.5m) composed of medium/large stones (diam. c. 0.25m). A cairn (CL009-145----) lies c. 32m to the NNW. Compiled by: Mary Tunney and Conn Herriott Date of upload: 21 June 2022
