Thirty metres of loose stone and five mysterious hollows mark Carran Hill, where a buried chamber may still wait beneath the grass. Men broke the mound open during a road build in 1874, pulling up bones and triggering arguments that still echo through Clare. One man claimed a cist, another denied it, leaving the hill both witnessed and withheld.

Situated on a knoll at the E edge of a plateau. A loose cairn of stones (diam. c. 5m; H 0.7m) with no distinguishing features. This is most likely a clearance cairn. Compiled by: Mary Tunney Date of upload: 23 February 2016
