Cairn

Dooey's Cairn is the only Irish court tomb with a cremation passage, where five or six adults were burned and buried behind a roofless chamber near Dunloy. The unusual south-west facing court and hidden fire chamber suggest people believed death required its own separate ritual, not ordinary burial. Andrew Dooey's family released the land to the state in 1975, preserving a strange Neolithic threshold where the living gathered before the dead went through flame.
