Caher Castle stands in ruins above Tulla, a tower house built to watch the lower valley and remind neighbours that local power reached even remote Clare fields. Its broken walls still outline a small defiant shape, the kind of place where families may have argued, hidden, or simply lived under the threat of sudden violence. The castle no longer needs a guard because the valley has stopped fearing it, but the stones keep the old shape of human pride.

Caher Castle was built in the 15th or 16th century by the O'Donnell family, a prominent Gaelic Irish clan. It is remembered as a fine example of a tower house and for its strategic role in the defensive landscape of west Clare during the late medieval period.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
