Why this matters
Cadbury Castle is believed to have been built by the Normans in the 11th or 12th century, possibly under the de Courcy family. It is important as a well-preserved example of a motte-and-bailey castle and as a site linked to the historical resistance against the Norman invasion in the southwest of England.
