Bute, St. Cattan's Well

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Bute, St. Cattan's Well as Holy Well (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

St. Cattan's Well is associated with St. Cattan, a 6th-century Irish monk and companion of St. Columba, who is said to have founded a monastery on the Isle of Bute. The well was traditionally visited for healing and blessings, with pilgrims collecting water believed to have curative properties, particularly for eye ailments and general health.
