What is recorded here

Castle Street in Port Bannatyne still holds a connected line of nineteenth-century houses and tenement rooms. They were built for neighbourhood life, not display, with doors close enough for voices to carry and stairs shared between families. The stones have stood through that much human noise, waiting for the next person to notice how small a town must have felt when so many rooms faced one another.
