What is recorded here

In a rough pasture just south of a church in Ballywalter, County Mayo, a hundred low markers lie buried beneath grass and forgetfulness. The ground belongs to children, though no plaque admits it; their small bones likely settled into the damp earth while adults watched from the church steps. Time has smoothed every name into silence, leaving only the shape of love and loss beneath the green.

In low-lying pasture, at base of rise. Marked ‘Burying Ground’ on OS map (1838). Subrectangular area (L 33m N-S), enclosed by low stone wall on three sides. Numerous grave markers noted.
