St Serf's Episcopal Church in Burntisland is associated with St Serf (or Sergius), a 6th-century Irish monk and missionary linked to the spread of Christianity in Scotland. Traditionally, St Serf is said to have founded a monastery on the nearby Cramond Island, and holy wells or sites connected to him were often believed to offer healing cures, particularly for skin ailments and livestock diseases.
