Burnt mound in Warrenstown

In marshy terrain which is liable to floods. During a pre-development field inspection on 26 June 2007 by Bernice Molloy, Gowen and Co. Ltd. for the NRA, in advance of the construction of the M8, an area of approximately 3m (N-S) by 2m of burnt stone was noted. The monument is adjacent to a stream indicated on the 1st (1839) ed. A burnt mound in a prehistoric settlement; likely dates to the Neolithic or Bronze Age and represents evidence of ancient domestic or ritual activity. Its location in flood-prone marshland may indicate adaptation to local environmental conditions.
