Burnt mound in Derreenataggart Commons

In rough hill grazing, on an E-facing slope. An oval mound (9.5m E-W; 6m N-S; H 1.1m) of heat-shattered stones and charcoal-enriched soil on the E side of a dry channel. A smaller mound (4.2m x 3.4m; H 0.4m) of heat-shattered stones and charcoal-enriched soil, probably originally part of the larger mound, lies immediately to the SW. A wall from a network of field boundaries (CO115-137008-) lies c. 15m to the S and two fulachtaí fia (CO115-137006-, CO115-137003-) lie c. 30m to the SE and c. 50m to the E, respectively. A hut site (CO115-137002-) and another fulacht fia (CO115-137007-) lie c. 60m to the E and NE, respectively. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
