Burnt mound in Ballinaspig More

This possible burnt mound was discovered during archaeological test-trenching undertaken in advance of the construction of the N22 Ballincollig Bypass. Excavation in 2001 revealed an irregularly shaped deposit (10m x 5m; max. D 0.4m) of heat-shattered stones and charcoal enriched soil which survived only in natural depressions within the prehistoric ground surface. No pits or associated features were discovered.
