What is recorded here

This possible burnt mound was discovered during archaeological test-trenching undertaken in advance of the construction of the N22 Ballincollig Bypass. Excavation in 2001 revealed an irregularly shaped deposit (10m x 5m; max. D 0.4m) of heat-shattered stones and charcoal enriched soil which survived only in natural depressions within the prehistoric ground surface. No pits or associated features were discovered. (Murphy 2003a, 26) The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). Date of upload: 22 December 2009
