Burleigh Castle is a ruined medieval tower house beside the A911 road near Milnathort, built for the Balfours after James II granted them the land in 1456. Its thick walls, corner tower and gun loops still stand where kings dined, prisoners waited and lovers may have fled. The castle has survived ownership changes, forfeiture and neglect, keeping its shape beside an ordinary road while the lives inside it have thinned to rumour.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Burleigh Castle as Tower House (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
