Burial mound in Coolnatullagh (burren By., Carran Par.)

Burial mound

What is recorded here

Half a metre of grass and earth marks a burial mound on the southern shelf of Gortaclare Mountain, where a spring still beads ten metres away. The oval ridge rises a full metre at its south end, suggesting people chose this bright, water-fed terrace for death as much as life. A possible cist waits fifty metres to the west, completing a small chambered landscape hidden inside ordinary farmland.
On a broad S-facing shelf on the lower slopes of Gortaclare Mountain and within an extensive field system (CL006-042001-). An oval grassed-over mound (c. 4m N-S; c. 3m E-W; H 0.25m at N, 1m at S). Visible on OSi MapGenie 2013-2018. A spring emerges from the terrace c. 10m to the SSW. A possible cist (CL006-042018-) lies c. 50m to the WNW.
