Cartoorbeg holds a burial site in County Galway, though the details have not yet been written for public view. The land may have swallowed a body, a child, a lover or a stranger, and the grass still covers that choice. Men and women walked past the mark or avoided it, carrying whatever the dead person had been. The absence of a description does not erase the event; it returns the place to the risk and wonder of loss.
