Burial Gd.

Burial ground

What is recorded here

Death came quickly in Galway, perhaps from fever, birth or the raw Atlantic, and these people stopped working to carry someone else. They dug through black soil until the hole was deep enough, laid the body inside without ceremony we can now imagine, and buried the tools with the dead. That is all a burial ground records: the hands, the haste and the love behind the dirt.
The Archaeological Survey of Ireland (ASI) is in the process of providing information on all monuments on The Historic Environment Viewer (HEV).
